| Zinc bartop, check; Art Nouveau-era fixtures and vintage artwork, check; waiters clad in trim white and black, check --- this downtown lunch spot looks every bit the classic Parisian bistro. That’s because it is. The tightly focused menu features salads, sandwiches, mussels, cheese and charcuterie plates, a couple of daily specials and dessert --- all handled with panache. As simple as they are, baguettes slathered with butter and sliced Camembert or jambon are things of beauty; moules piquantes steamed in chile-spiked white wine put a subtle local flourish on a Français mainstay, while a dish of escargots is traditionally Burgundian right down to the precise presentation. Wash it all down with a carafe of house wine --- and cap it off with comme-il-faut lemon tart. And do it on your day off, so you can make a leisurely afternoon of the charming experience. (Or visit P’tit Louis’s Nob Hill sibling instead, which serves dinner Thursday through Saturday at 3218 Silver Ave. SE, 505-314-1110.) |
