Beach restaurants always have a mood of their own, even when populated almost exclusively by inlanders who arrive on weekend nights for a view of the waves and a double dose of ambiance. QWIIGS, probably the liveliest sit. down restaurant in funky Ocean Beach, offers plenty of both. The second floor perch guarantees excellent views of the Ocean Beach pier and also sets the place apart---literally. The sushi bar is popular with many, but we prefer a window table---we get one if we’re lucky and our timing is right---where we can choose from the extensive menu of shellfish appetizers, daily fish specials, salads, pastas and one of the better prime ribs on this side of town. QWIIGS, incidently, stands for Queeters Who Indulge In Great Sports, a high school boys’ sports fraternity organized during World War II to which the founder of this restaurant belonged.
