The R Bistro upstairs above Renaissance Restaurant has the same owner/chef, Charles Dale, and utilizes the same kitchen. This a casual dining experience with some tables outside on the deck and very often, a guitarist or small musical group providing the entertainment. The bar is a popular spot in itself before and after dinner. Some examples of what’s on the informally mixed menu include a daily soup special, Vietnamese rock shrimp rolls, tenderloin steak tartare ground to order and a lamb, black bean and Fontina cheese quesadillas. There’s a different hearty, rustic stew each evening, southwestern duck cassoulet with toasted cornbread chili, Burmese chicken curry, and Thai-style bouillabaisse. Linger later over the fat-free soufflé of the day or go crazy with the Bananamada, a white chocolate blondie with roasted banana ice cream and caramel sauce, flamed at the table.
