 R+D Kitchen, a concept from the Hillstone Restaurant Group (Houston’s, Gulfstream, Bandera), boasts a convenient location at the entrance to Fashion Island. Like its sister restaurants, the indoor-outdoor space is a sleek combination of wood, glass and leather, providing a modern take on a classic tavern. Regulars go for simple, quick and satisfying meals. Flavorful entrée salads and sandwiches range from seared tuna salad to a prime rib French dip and the signature “Rubenesque” sandwich. Burgers are made with meat that is ground on the premises each morning, cooked on a flat-top grill and served on homemade buns. For dessert, diners can choose from carrot cake or pot de crème. A short wine list offers many selections by the glass. Friendly and efficient staff can have you back window shopping in no time.
