Despite its location in an obscure minimall, across from a cemetery and next door to a gravestone store, this is one of restaurant-rich Monterey Park's liveliest little eateries. It has a few no-frills tables and does a robust take-out trade, and it's a favorite for bargain-priced Pacific Island specialties. The menu over the counter reflects the usual teriyaki, tempura and sesame chicken, so check out the paper menu to discover the full breadth of the kitchen's repertoire. We like the pan-fried gyoza (dumplings), the curries, udon (noodles), the plump, fried oysters and the Hawaiian pork. Given the prices, it's difficult to go wrong at this unexpected neighborhood gem.
