Located across from English Bay, Raincity Grill has celebrated all things Vancouver for 20-plus years, being one of the first restaurants in the region to embrace the “buy locally, eat seasonally” concept. Chef Nicolas Hipperson continues this commitment to sustainability focusing on seafood, game, poultry and organic vegetables from British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. Several tasting menus are available: the Regional Tasting Menu stars vegetables such as North Arm Farm beets and carrots, and Helmer's potatoes; the weekly four-course Regional Tasting Menu and the 100-Mile Tasting Menu are inspired by local farmers and fishermen with dishes that change with the seasons. An early prix-fixe three-course menu with braised Cache Creek lamb or BC mushroom pappardelle is served from 5 p.m.-6 p.m. To finish, try the walnut-brown butter cake with poached pears and carrot and pear sorbet; Chilliwack River wild honey brûlée; or an artisan cheese plate. The wine list includes 500 labels from Washington, Oregon, California and British Columbia vintners with dozens available by the glass. Service is professional and gracious.
