Rainforest Cafe Restaurant Review: The restaurant darkens, thunder rumbles and lightning flashes; a cloudburst sends showers trickling down the dining room’s side panels. Kids, begging to eat among the vines and animated wildlife, love this staged jungle fantasyland. Put your name in for a table at the "elephant" podium, but be forewarned that the wait is often long. You can pass the time watching live bird demos on the front stage or browsing the retail store, filled with colorful T-shirts and stuffed animals. The pedestrian grill fare boasts tropical names like The Calypso salad --- mixed greens with goat cheese, dried cranberries, strawberries and candied pecans --- or Bamba’s bacon-wrapped BBQ shrimp. The Rainforest Rascal’s menu caters to the under-12 set, while the juice bar is geared toward the health conscious. For those not counting calories, the volcano dessert erupts with vanilla ice cream, brownies and chocolate and caramel sauces. Young servers clad in game warden uniforms deliver average service.
