| Sevan Azarian-Abdessian's Recess is an upscale café and gourmet marketplace in Glendale, north of downtown. Breakfast dishes include "Benny’s on Brand," an eggs Benedict with lemon-thyme hollandaise, and a well-stuffed burrito, while lunch-dinner offerings include various panini, such as a satisfying pressed jambon-fromage number on fresh-baked ciabatta. A generous salad shows off togarashi-crusted rare ahi, avocado, mango, grapefruit and a spicy ponzu-mustard aïoli over mixed greens. Individual thin-crusted pizzas include the meaty "Detention" option made with sopressata and Canadian bacon. Greeting guests in the café area is wicker furniture and a white marble espresso bar displaying artfully-plated sweets, like almond croissants and red velvet cupcakes. The adjoining full-service dining room is unexpectedly stylish, with polished wood tables, sleek mirrors and a pair of wrought iron chandeliers. |
