Recess Restaurant Review

: Chef-owner Greg Hardesty calls his little neighborhood gem a culinary playground. The daily changing prix-fixe menu features three to four courses, and appropriate wines are selected with each course for an additional up-charge. Finds may include smoked bluenose bass with avocado purée; walleye with bacon-braised collard greens and roasted beet slaw; and Fischer Farms strip steak with wilted kale, sweet corn, chanterelles and mac ‘n’ cheese. Desserts are relatively light, as in bourbon-roasted peaches with cornbread and honey butter glaze, and blue cheese with local berries and pistachios.
