Red Hill Restaurant Review: A splash of color, candlelight and an open kitchen give this simple Echo Park space a touch of pizzazz, which is a reflection of the ongoing makeover of the city into a viable dining alternative to neighboring Silver Lake. Red Hill’s Italian-influenced cuisine begins with arancini, rosemary potato flatbread and venison meatballs with fennel confit, before transitioning to pastas, bone-in pork chop with stout jus, or roasted duck breast with pomegranate jus. An unlikely winner in the dessert category is olive oil cake with tomato sorbet. The eclectic array of wines is available by the glass and bottle. This is also a good place for breakfast, where a yam biscuit topped by crispy Serrano ham, Swiss chard and a poached egg, all bathed in Parmesan cream, is a stand-in for eggs Benedict.
