Dining room at Red Knot, Kenilworth, NJ

Red Knot Restaurant Review

: Red Knot is aptly named for a colorful shorebird that migrates through New Jersey on its South America-to-the-Arctic journey. And like a bird’s eye view, diners are afforded a sweeping picture of the Galloping Hill Golf Course and the countryside beyond seen through floor-to-ceiling windows or from the slate terrace. The modern Craftsman interior is highlighted with natural stone, imported tile and bamboo flooring. The menu has elements of contemporary American fare as well as gastropub delights. Consider sweet-sour tamarind-crusted scallops served with velvety polenta, prosciutto and pea shoots, or try the Mac’n 3 Cheese. There’s an array of specialty burgers prepared with a generous hand and pomegranate-glazed duck breast, too, served with fine dining sophistication. Executive chef Ralph Romano (Barclays Center in Brooklyn) has added some offbeat dishes such as schmalz kielbasa with smoked bacon and pierogies. Most notable among desserts is Chef Brian’s Beignets, fresh from the fryer with a trio of “dunks”: chocolate ganache, caramel sauce and raspberry purée. The wine list is carefully chosen and fairly priced. Service is efficient and pleasant.
