Red Mesa Cantina Restaurant Review: A sister restaurant to the established sibling further north in St. Pete, this Red Mesa offers Mexican cuisine designed for the aficionado as well as those new to the vibrant tastes of tacos, quesadillas and burritos. For the indecisive, a ceviche sampler (choice of four) is the way to go, while others may wish to focus entirely on the sweet bay scallops, avocado, red onion, cilantro and citrus mojito. On the main menu, one of the most popular selections is the tacos en cazuela, which makes four to five tacos from a choice of seafood, beef or portobello mushrooms. Downtown concert- and event-goers like to come into the cantina for desserts such as the apple empanada, a fried sugar-and-cinnamon-coated apple turnover with cajeta caramel, dulce de leche gelato and whipped cream.
