Dining room at Red Stag Supperclub, Minneapolis, MNIt’s déjà-vu all over again at this redux of a ’50s roadhouse, this time in the lively Northeast section of the inner city. From back bar to ceiling beams, the décor celebrates timeless salvaged items; that goes for the food, too. Resurrected classics include a Waldorf salad composed of apples, shiitakes, walnuts, smoked raisins and celeriac crème fraîche and mac ‘n’ cheese with an added bling of lobster and truffle oil. Must-taste entrées lead off with pork chops with cheese grits, barbecued shrimp and bacon succotash. Surf ’n’ turfers can upgrade their flatirons and filets with Maine lobster or Minnesota foie gras ($25 supplement). Retro cocktails---Gin Rickeys to Moscow Mules---flank a short but forward-thinking wine list. Tree-huggers can have their cake and eat it, too, for this is the first LEED-certified restaurant in the state; AKA, the national standard for a sustainable, high-performance building.
