 Red Star Tavern & Roast House Restaurant Review: Located in the stylish Hotel Monaco, this Southern-influenced “roast house” offers creative American cooking in a lively, boisterous atmosphere. The bar has special menus for both scotch and bourbon, and does a brisk, after work and happy hour business with a full range of libations. For dinner, the menu is comforting and inventive with everything from deviled eggs and pork cracklings to grilled octopus. The cuts of meat are hefty, such as a venison rib chop or the two-fingers-thick pork porterhouse. Vegetarians have a few hearty options as well, a favorite being smoked kale with red quinoa and tofu. Breakfast ranges from the light, such as house-made granola, to more substantial pancakes, waffles, french toast and omelets. Parents will find that Red Star is surprisingly kid-friendly, and not just because the dessert menu offers the gooey Red Star s’more. |
