Redeye Grill Restaurant Review

: Located across from Carnegie Hall, this restaurant may be called the Home of the Dancing Shrimp, but the dancing shrimp---two slowly revolving, six-foot bronze-colored statues---are the least whimsical aspect of David Rockwell's campy design. You're more likely to notice the murals of frolicking nudes that wrap the 15-foot-high columns, or the lavish display of smoked fish---from tequila-, jalapeño- and orange-flavored smoked salmon to smoked sable and chub. Steaks, chops, and a huge Cobb salad including lobster as well as maki rolls and sashimi assortments populate the menu. We especially like the accompanying cold salads---eggplant and peppers, celery root rémoulade, orange and fennel---the grilled shrimp Louis and the luscious banana-cream pie. There's live jazz most evenings and during Sunday brunch.
