 A truly romantic restaurant in an historic boutique hotel, La Colombe d’Or's Restaurant CINQ offers fine French dining with a Texas twist in the former home of Houston oil baron W. W. Fondren. The menu features modern French cuisine and regional Cajun dishes. The lobster bisque topped with lump crab meat is one of the best in Houston, especially when you add a dollop of brandy. Meat dishes reign supreme, with the simply prepared Prime tenderloin of beef leading the pack, but we recommend the slow-braised short ribs, too. Salmon and grilled fish dishes also shine, and an old favorite, salade de crabe et avocat, vinaigrette a’ l’orange features lump crab meat drizzled with an orange vinaigrette made with a hint of balsamic vinegar and black pepper, and paper-thin slices of fresh avocado and garden tomatoes. Chocolate lovers should partake in the palette de chocolate, a mosaic of white, light and dark chocolate mousses, some spiked with liqueurs. An extensive wine list proffers mostly French selections and the restaurant serves its own label from Provence.
