THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Purloo Restaurant Review:

The Southern Food and Beverage Museum has become an anchor in the burgeoning commercial district in Central City New Orleans. Inside the museum, chef Ryan Hughes stays true to the theme with authentic Southern cooking. The restaurant only has 60 seats, 20 of which are at the wraparound food bar that overlooks a shiny open kitchen. The rest of the seating is offered at thick wooden tables, with floor-to-ceiling windows on one side. Try to secure seats at the food bar, because the chefs are very interactive and love to talk about their preparations. With 10 specials every week, and a menu that includes local favorites such as spicy boiled seafood, pecan-crusted short ribs, fried catfish and traditional she-crab soup, you will know you're not in Kansas anymore. The limited international wine list (about two dozen selections) has been carefully thought out to fully complement the cuisine. The best bet for dessert is the chess pie, a Southern favorite, sometimes called "Ooey Gooey cake."
