Restaurant des Familles offers a tour of Louisiana seafood dishes on its menu and a view to relatives of some of the main ingredients swimming around in the verdantly green bayou just outside. The bayou landscape is one of the specials at this restaurant, with close-up views of the picturesque Bayou des Familles. From the tall, wide windows, alligators and small animals are frequently seen dozing or scurrying in their natural habitat. What better spot to dig into a zippily seasoned crawfish etouffée, or more-than-decent versions of shrimp rémoulade, turtle soup, catfish meunière and pecan pie? The kitchen braves no new territory, but the locale makes it worth the brief road trip out of the city and into the Louisiana swamp. Lots of the dishes are prepared by frying, but they may also be grilled.
