Restaurant Mikado Restaurant Review:

Compact and bustling, in the very heart of the Reforma corridor, Mikado’s huge menu covers everything Japanese you’ve ever heard of, and a lot that you haven’t. Single diners and lunch-breaking office duos favor the collective, low-rent-Benihana grill bars upstairs; the more leisurely head to tables below decks. Admittedly, gyoza may be a little disappointing (too dough-y), but the spicy tuna roll is equal to any we’ve had---at least outside Japan, that is. Traditional shrimp tempura is large and plentiful, and deeply fried---a good or a bad thing, depending on your tastes. Amusingly, the real crowd-pleasers (clearly the most requested dish) are the fried rice plates, unctuously wokked up before your eyes and larded with goodies like egg, Asian sausage, succulent meats and every kind of veggie, Asian or Occidental. While a lot more Guadalupe than Ginza, Mikado is a lively change of pace when you’ve had your fill of tacos and tortas.
