: Tucked away on the ground floor of one of the city’s most notable historic hotels, Restaurant Thir13en effectively blends the old and the new, both in concept and cuisine. The restored Victorian building retains all of its original charm, complemented by modern touches. Details include original leaded glass windows and dark mahogany floors, while an arched entryway welcomes guests into the intimate dining room, dotted with river rocks, flickering candlelight and gilded mirrors. Outside, the spacious patio features natural stone and a soothing trickling water fountain. The contemporary menu, which changes regularly, has many classic influences, and features locally produced, seasonal ingredients. The lobster cakes were bursting with sweet, fresh meat, and nicely offset with a tangy lemon aïoli and fennel and arugula salad. Pepper-crusted tuna carpaccio was spicy yet refreshing, the succulent ahi atop a delicate rice noodle salad with a citrus-chili kick; sea scallops were well-seared yet tender, paired with a decadent kale-dotted sunchoke risotto. Desserts are crafted with equal care, such as the rich German chocolate cake or house-made apple pie with salty caramel ice cream. Enjoy one of the many specialty cocktails, such as the tangerine comet, with Prosecco, orange bitters and rock candy.
