RISING CHEFS 2005

Tim and Liza Goodell’s burgeoning Domaine Restaurant Group (Dakota, Red Pearl Kitchen) brought Meson G to this Melrose Avenue address, which seems to hold a little magic for those who inhabit its kitchen: Michel Richard’s Citrus stood at the pinnacle of fine dining during its heyday; Richard's chef de cuisine, Alain Giraud, went on to executive chef posts at Lavande and Bastide; and Alex Scrimgeour’s name now holds a place on every foodies’ radar. Next up: Josef Centeno. The Goodells installed this youthful yet seasoned chef at their small plates concept venue after his stint as executive chef at their now-closed but once high-flying Aubergine in Newport Beach. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Centeno briefly spent time in New York restaurants Vong and Daniel, with the respected Manresa in Los Gatos also holding a spot on his résumé. Centeno has energized Meson G where the Goodells feature him front-and-center at a Chef’s Table experience appealing to those hungry for a more up-close-and-personal view of this promising chef at work.
