Rhumb Line The Sunset Restaurant Restaurant Review: The view is spectacular and a vast, open room is designed to make the most of it. A wall of windows looks onto Ventura Harbor, where commercial fishing boats float alongside pleasure cruisers. The menu has plenty of terrestrial offerings, but this is a place that highlights seafood --- and practically begs patrons to order a sunset cocktail or glass of wine. Do so. And build your own seafood tower at the raw bar; items are served on a bed of ice and garnished with Japanese seaweed and caper berries. The accompanying cocktail sauce is laced with brandy. Local halibut is pan-seared and paired with pea purée, glazed carrots and a goat cheese beurre blanc. Shrimp are either panko-crusted or grilled, and are plated with a flavorful pesto sauce atop grits. Lunch and dinner portions are generous --- even the house wedge salad is a massive presentation in which thick chunks of bacon and blue cheese crumbles spill down a mountain of lettuce. “Turf” entrées like a New York strip steak with charred baby turnips and a bordelaise sauce can be “surfed” with either shrimp or lobster. Happy hour draws a crowd.
