Great Wine List* Click here for rating key
Following its tenth anniversary Rialto underwent a complete sea change, but Jody Adams’ destination in the Charles Hotel emerged shiny and clean, the dining room suffused with the hues and the menu with the rootsy yet sophisticated flavors of Italy’s wine country. Since pastas and grains have always been one of her strengths, it’s a thrill to have more of them to choose from; we like the contrast of lush figs with sharp radicchio in her red-wine risotto. Game enjoys newfound priority; dishes don’t get much more soulful than milk-braised pork shoulder with mushrooms. Add a deep and constantly evolving wine list and unobtrusive service, and you’ve got one of Cambridge’s---indeed, Greater Boston’s---quintessential modern dining experiences. Granted, it’s also one of the more expensive, which is why we’re also pleased to see an unprecedented emphasis on smaller plates. For a real deal, stop in on Monday nights, when local Island Creek oysters go for just $1 each. |
