Remember the old days, when Vietnamese food was usually found in basic strip mall shops? Rice Paper Eatery offers modern dining amid weathered brick walls, sexy wood tables and white chairs that cradle you like a hug. Pho is nicely done, especially the classic combo with sliced round eye steak, tendons, brisket, chewy tripe and dense little meatballs. But hold on for more nouveau dishes as well, like the braised pork and quail eggs served in a hot clay pot in coconut curry with steamed rice. The owners are young, stylish sisters, and their sense of fashion shows in the plating, in tricks like vertically stacking the spring rolls to showcase the colorful ingredients peeking through the translucent rice paper, and creating upscale combos like tuna, jícama, avocado, mango, vermicelli, lettuce and cucumbers dipped with miso ginger sauce. And how many authentic Vietnamese places offer a full bar, as this one does?
