The fusion-California menu includes dishes such as glazed Angus short rib with radicchio-celery root slaw, an intensely flavored starter deserving of entrée status. Also noteworthy are the grilled Mexican white prawns with white corn-chive risotto and preserved lemons. Main dish choices range from organic chicken to sea bass to lamb loin. There is even a vegetarian specialty called forbidden rice crêpes with grilled curried tofu and spiced vegetable ragoût. We also recommend the naturally raised veal chop with bacon and white cheddar bread pudding and City Lights chard. Among retro-chic desserts, the Big Ass Fig Newton is a kick, looking exactly like the childhood staple but accompanied by a sophisticated goat cheese parfait and port syrup. Better yet, order the warm chocolate cake with peanut butter ganache and salted Spanish peanut ice cream.
