"La Sala" means "living room" in Italian and, fittingly enough, the tastefully and comfortably arranged front room of this Larchmont eatery is about as cozy as you can get. The white tablecloth settings, simple redwood moldings and a fireplace create a soothing atmosphere in which to enjoy the traditional Italian fare. Try the smoky flavors of the dry sliced Swiss beef, served over arugula, or the asparagi con prosciutto, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto di Parma and sprinkled with a zesty raspberry vinaigrette for starters. Or split the pasta selections like the gnocchi al forno with pancetta, endive, sage and Gorgonzola, or a traditional spaghetti carbonara, with shallots, bacon, prosciutto di Parma and white wine as an appetizer alternative. Follow these with the veal Columbo or grilled pork chops served with vinegar peppers. Creamy panna cotta, made fresh daily like everything else at La Sala, adds a touch of sweetness to a satisfying meal.
