This 400-person-capacity restaurant-nightclub dedicates itself to the New Orleans blues. The entire floor has been decorated in the likeness of the French Quarter, with miniature storefronts lining the walls. Live blues music takes the stage Thursdays through Saturdays and special events, such as swing dancing lessons or open mics, occur sporadically throughout the week. The menu is a unique blend of Creole, Cajun and Southern comfort. Appetizers include hush puppies, deep-fried okra, pickle and alligator, with a wide selection of dipping sauces. They are not for those looking to eat light; the batter is heavy and the sauces are rich. The classic Slims St. Jambalaya and the River City gumbo are alternatives. Entrées mean traditional dishes such as etouffée, Cajun pasta and grouper and catfish, or go for the voodoo shrimp (tangy citrus shrimp over rice) or the signature Bourbonator: a sauce made of bacon, bourbon and Cajun shrimp, poured over French bread. The oft-accompanying thick slab of cornbread is ample enough, and sweet enough, to count as dessert.
