With its generously spaced, linen-dressed tables, stylish contemporary chandeliers and overall cushy feel, this venue is much more high-end restaurant than casual bistro. While you may find a few bistro classics here, the menu shows more Italian influences, as well as some upscale renditions of American comfort food. Restaurateur Tomasso Barletta understands his conservative clientele, which seems to have made Riviera Bistro a winner. Worthy options here include a superlative rack of lamb with a wonderful mustard-shallot crust; creamy risotto with porcini mushrooms and marrow; short ribs; and crispy duck in a fig reduction. Don't forget the fine starters, too, such as manchego cheese soufflé, beef carpaccio and Maine lobster risotto cakes in chervil cream sauce. The wine list, with extensive selections from California and Italy (but an anemic French representation), is quite respectable.
