 RL (appended to the Ralph Lauren store) is a retro-classic restaurant that’s---surprise, surprise---impressive. The atmosphere is as clubby as you’d expect, the walls papered with pictures of every size and style. As for the menu, it’s awash in retro dishes like steak Diane, lobster bisque, Dover sole and bananas Foster. Sharp, tuxedoed waiters do a lot of the finish-work tableside (filet the sole, flame the crêpes Suzette, sizzle the steak Diane), each of the dishes well-prepared and beautifully presented. Even the RL burger is a beauty (and a relative bargain, at least in these parts, at $12). As for the crowd, it’s posh---and very ladies-who-lunch during the day.
