Roadside BBQ Restaurant Review: Roadside’s menu features wood-smoked meats and homemade sides, sauces and desserts, all served in a family-friendly atmosphere. They use a combination of apple, hickory and mesquite woods, but despite the fact that there is a smoker in the kitchen, the meats lack that discernable smoky flavor and may arrive lukewarm. Sauces and sides also don’t quite live up to expectations---mac ‘n’ cheese is dry and the baked red beans too sweet. Pulled pork and brisket are your best bets---both are lean and tender---and the baby-back ribs are good enough if you have a craving for barbecue in the inner Richmond. |
