Roastbeef Kamakurayama Restaurant Review:

In the hills of the ancient city of Kamakura, outside Tokyo, is an old and elegant Japanese restaurant that serves---of all things---roast beef with horseradish, potatoes and gravy. It’s well worth the rather long trip, as the roast beef here is delicious but different, since it’s made with evenly marbled Japanese meat that is so tender that it can be cut with a fork. These are cooked in large ovens right by the entrance, tended by uniformed chefs with the precision of tea ceremony masters. The roast beef is accompanied by very conservative renditions of old-fashioned classics like creamy corn soup, lobster bouillabaisse, and grilled abalone. Meanwhile, the venue was once a gracious Japanese tatami-floored home, with spacious gardens, that has been re-outfitted with Western furniture. Go at lunch for the views, the chance to visit a few temples either before or after the meal, and the more reasonably-priced set menus.
