| Taking over the space that once housed a mom and pop eatery, the Roasthouse Pub introduced a new element to suburban Frederick’s restaurant scene. Operated by a group of young and devoted cooks and servers, the pub, which may be as much about locally brewed beers as it is about food, is also a shirtsleeves kind of place, but one with a sophisticated downtown menu. Appetizers include stuffed banana peppers that have a cheesy-gooey charm, and a roasted poblano pepper queso, a bubbling dish filled with poblano and jalapeño peppers in a cream cheese base, served with ciabatta bread. As for entrées, you’ll find chicken potpie, a pork chop smothered in a beer-based vegetable roast, baby-back ribs and an artichoke linguine. Desserts are just as offbeat: the beer bread pudding --- after all, this is a beer pub --- is dynamite. |
