Robin's Woodfire BBQ & Grill Restaurant Review: Pasadena mainstay Robin's offers an extensive menu of ultra-casual American fare, including a juicy Gorgonzola cheeseburger, chicken and waffles, and beer-battered fish. But the regulars, of which there are many, come here mostly for barbecue smoked over aromatic apple and oak. The baby-back ribs --- with meat that literally falls off the bone and offered with a choice of sauces (e.g. Carolina sweet mustard, Memphis red vinegar-based, red hot “Mad Dog”) --- have become local legend. Good sides include blue cheese and pecan coleslaw, onion rings and baked beans. Tempting (and often gargantuan) desserts round out the picture. Casual, boisterous and filled top to bottom with vintage beer signs, license plates and street signs, Robin’s feels like it should be next to a college campus, but is the quintessential family joint. |
