Rosa Mexicano Restaurant Review

: In New York City, Rosa Mexicano is a go-to spot for Mexican cooking, but the growing chain's first San Francisco outpost faces steep local competition. The restaurant's tableside guacamole cart and other contemporary updates to the cuisine, coupled with its fine dining ambience, including a dramatic, mosaic "water wall," breaks from the authenticity of Mexican joints in the nearby Mission. Financial District diners can optimize the menu by focusing on appetizers and smaller dishes where creativity and flavor are the strongest. Layered duck tortilla pie is a meal in starter form, mild but enjoyable. Other favorites include the pork belly nachos and various creative takes on ceviche. At Saturday brunch and late weekend nights, Rosa Mexicano offers Mexican breakfast dishes, from savory shredded beef with eggs to sweet, cinnamon-cascabel chile brioche french toast stuffed with mascarpone and topped with caramelized plantains. At any time of day, the place’s Bloody Mary brings an extra bit of heat, and there are plenty of house margaritas and cocktails for those looking for something with a kick to go with their tableside guacamole.
