Rosamunde Sausage Grill Restaurant Review: It isn't a stretch to call this slightly gritty sausage joint a San Francisco classic. A chalkboard with a long list of sausages and a sizzling grill greet eager diners. There's lots of pork (spicy and smoked) plus gourmet additions such as smoked duck with hazelnuts, lamb with sun-dried tomato and chicken with cherries. Don't miss the weisswurst---juicy and tender, plumped with veal and scented with onions and leeks. All sausages are served on a roll and can be dolled up with grilled onions, sweet or hot peppers, mustards or 'kraut. Half-pints of potato salad or some salt-and-vinegar potato chips make for simple sides. Don't be put off by the brightly lit storefront with a handful of stools against a narrow counter. Those in the know take their sausages to the Toronado Bar next door where one of the 20 beers on tap is sure to match up with the ideal sausage sandwich. Those really in the know swing by on Tuesdays a bit before 11 a.m. to line up for the weekly hamburger special. Also located at 2832 Mission Street in the Mission District. |
