 Roy's Restaurant Review: Roy's features innovative Hawaiian-fusion cuisine and a terrific wine list. The chain restaurant's casually elegant interior is inspired by famed chef Roy Yamaguchi's Hawaiian roots---an open kitchen, tile floors, exposed wood and woven sea grass ceiling, handcrafted wrought iron and bright red and yellow fabrics. Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai sauces enhance Roy's signature creations, like crispy kung pao calamari, tamari-garlic flatiron steak, macadamia nut-crusted mahi and Hawaiian-style braised short ribs. Yamaguchi devotes a good deal of time to his wine lists, featuring rare and unusual selections, many produced and bottled exclusively for Roy's to pair with the food. Fresh and innovative cocktails, like the sage blossom martini or the jalapeño-melon margarita, also go nicely with the Asian-style fare. |
