Russian Tea Room Restaurant Review:

Re-opening to great fanfare in 2006, the restaurant brought back the same flourishes and dazzling décor that wowed diners for decades. Alas, what they failed to bring back was the consistency in the dining experience. With regular chef changes, a disinterested waitstaff, and a team of hosts-hostesses that are dismissive enough to make you think you’ve traveled back to Soviet-era Russia, Russian Tea Room the redux is a mere shell of what it once was (much like the Soviet Union just before its implosion). Even the dishes are still steeped in an old-school stupor---the Côtellete a la Kiev, is but one example. RTR’s new take on Russia’s famous blintzes, stuffed with savory goat cheese and wild mushrooms, may be the best choice---and if you save it for dessert, you’ll at least leave with a good taste in your mouth.
