Sahara's Turkish Cuisine Restaurant Review:

Sitting inconspicuously on a Kips Bay block lined with Irish pubs, nail salons and other eateries, Sahara's is worth noticing. Turkish cuisine is prepared admirably, the menu offering up the staples. Start with grape vine leaves stuffed with rice, pine nuts and currants or run the gamut of appetizers on the mixed meze plate --- a combination of eggplant, yogurt and chickpea-based sauces. The simpler the better when it comes to entrées. Thin baby lamb chops, for example, are lightly spiced and tender enough to wish for more. Skewered ground chicken also manages to be more tender than your average fowl. The crown, however, goes to the Iskender kebab, which drizzles garlic yogurt and tomato sauce on grilled lamb and pita bread. The wine list has many affordable bottles, including some decent selections from Turkey.
