Conveyer belt sushi joints hit London long before New York, but now they’ve taken the Big Apple in a big way. Enter Sakae Sushi, a Singapore-based chain with outlets worldwide. Once you start grabbing plates (their color indicates price) you may quickly realize that the conveyor belt is simply a gimmick. The sushi itself is fairly standard; the best selections are the (naturally, more expensive) bowls of fresh squid and shredded jellyfish. If you don’t see something you want, order it from a tableside computer and a server will deliver it from the kitchen. In the end, you might tire of the conveyer belt process and yearn for an actual menu.
