Dining room at Salpicon, Chicago, ILThis is a family affair: Priscila runs the kitchen and her husband, Vincent, runs the front of the house. And while many an upscale Mexican restaurant has come (and some gone) over the years, this one forges on. We enjoy the inviting, stylish surroundings as well as the top-rate selection of tequilas and wines. But the real star of this show is the food. The restaurant prepares one of the best mole sauces in town (we like the Pueblan, in particular). When it comes to shellfish, we suggest the grilled shrimp in a sweet avocado and guajillo chile-inflected garlic sauce. Try the seven-course tasting menu for a real treat. Desserts deliver, too, be it the flan, Mexican chocolate mousse or spicy lime-and-tequila sorbet infused with Serrano chilies.
