Salt is situated in a former mortuary, though the building’s history isn’t evident from the décor or the large bar. The mixologists know their craft and keep on top of trends (like making their own tincture for the Ornery Hound). However, the dining room is where the real action is. It’s possible to fill up on small plates, especially the broiled mussels with chorizo, the bacon-and-egg risotto or the smoky scallops, served cleverly in sealed jars. But then you’d miss the seared trout, chicken fried in duck fat or the soy-braised pork cheek. And you definitely don’t want to bypass sampling a seasonal fruit tart with ice cream, perhaps blueberries with lemon. The wine list is surprisingly weighted toward European wines; the beer list has more diversity and flair.
