Most steakhouses look like men’s clubs. Sam & Harry’s, much awaited in the Northern Virginia ’burbs, looks like a sophisticated California nightclub from the outside. The specialty steak here is a porterhouse, custom-cut for Sam & Harry’s by a Chicago packer. If you want something other than steak, alternatives are lamb or veal chops, large lobsters and grilled fish. The wine list is long and impressive. There’s also a casual tap room, where you can still get your steaks, but you can also order overstuffed sandwiches and entrée salads. Also located at 1200 19th St. NW, Washington, DC, 202-296-4333.
