 Established in 1867, Sam's Grill is a living piece of San Francisco restaurant lore. From the wood-paneled dining room to the worn linoleum floor, Sam's is a monument to the old days of leisurely three-martini lunches. The trick to dining here is to stick with the basics like broiled or pan-fried fish with minimal saucing. Start with Sam's signature asparagus with mustard sauce. The broiled swordfish and salmon are first-rate, as are the sand dabs and rich cheesecake. Try to snag one of the curtained private dining booths.
