Tucked into the stone-lined walls and timbered ceilings of an 1870s-era horse barn, this low-key hideaway is both soothing and exciting. Co-owner Michael Kutscheid, one of the city's most gracious hosts, presides over a very attentive staff (that's the soothing part), while in the kitchen, chef Patrick Atanalian cooks with energy and innovation, drawing inspiration from his southern French roots but tapping into flavors and styles from around the world. A bright green-apple emulsion is a fine foil for tender grilled marlin. Pork loin is rubbed with chipotle peppers, slow-cooked until it's fork-tender and then paired with a vibrant, sweet corn sauce. Atanalian's beef tartare sings with bold harissa accents, and his desserts are as delicious as they are eye-catching. A five-course chef's tasting menu is served Monday through Thursday for $35.
