| It's all about basic, down-to-earth, tasty barbecue at the Santa Barbara Chicken Ranch. The spot is very popular with the locals, especially at lunch, when the lines get long. But the food is worth the wait. We like to watch the orders prepared in full view atop the open mesquite grill. And we appreciate the simple, approachable menu: chicken, tri-tip and burritos. That's it. The Half-Chicken Plate is a hearty serving with beans, homemade salsa and warm tortillas. For the couple or trio wanting to share, there's the Whole-Chicken Plate. It also offers two-, four- or eight-piece buckets to go. We are big fans of the tri-tip, especially the One-Pound Tri-Tip Plate---enough to feed four, with a dozen warm tortillas and generous servings of beans and salsa. Both the chicken and the tri-tip also appear in the burritos, which are stuffed with marinated onions, rice, whole beans and cheese. Also located at 163 N. Fairview Ave. in Goleta. |
