While the restaurant collection on St. Charles Avenue is diverse, Santa Fe Tapas Restaurant & Bar is the only destination for Southwestern cuisine. Owned by the same family that owns the Southwestern restaurant called Santa Fe in mid-city, this spot features tapas. Try the sugar cane-skewered lamb lollipops with mint chimichurri, carne asada, and grilled caramelized scallops with mango and green tomato pico de gallo. Traditionalists will like the huevos rancheros. Complementing it all is a respectable collection of Spanish wines, not the least of which is the Palacios Remondo La Vendimia, a modern-style red wine from Rioja, Spain. If you smell roses and taste plums and Bing cherries, your palate is alive and well. Save a few sips to accompany the chocolate ganache cake or Belgian chocolate cheesecake for dessert.
