Chef Suzanne Goin Chef Suzanne Goin and business partner Caroline Styne, of Los Angeles restaurants Lucques, A.O.C., Tavern and The Larder at Maple Drive, are slated to open a restaurant in Montecito in spring 2013. (Goin and her husband, David Lentz, also operate The Hungry Cat in Santa Barbara.) The project does not have a name yet, but it will feature farm-to-table cuisine. Chef de cuisine Javier Espinoza will oversee the kitchen.

 
Brats Bros. has replaced the Newbury Park location of Lamppost Pizza. A dozen German and Belgian beers are available on tap, and sausage meats range from the predictable, like smoked pork, to the utterly bizarre --- think ... kangaroo? Kabuki Japanese Restaurant has opened a new location in The Collection at RiverPark, Oxnard's sprawling development along Highway 101. The eatery offers an accessible, family-friendly version of Japanese food at affordable prices. Chef Stephen Giles has opened a reincarnation of Sage & Onion, a longtime locals’ favorite restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara. The new version, Sage & Onion Café, is located in Goleta, at 5599 Hollister Ave., and offers a unique “from our kitchen to yours” program: fresh meals made daily and ready to take home for just $9.99. Taste of Solvang
The 21st Annual Taste of Solvang will showcase the culinary uniqueness of "Little Denmark," where old-world roots meld with contemporary wine country style. The weekend-long event March 13-17 will feature tasting room tours and a walking smorgasbord, not to mention live entertainment and more glogg and aebleskiver than anyone should consume. Chef Shuffle

Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. announced the appointment of Patrice Martineau as executive chef for El Encanto, the iconic but long-shuttered Santa Barbara hotel scheduled to reopen in March 2013. Originally from Troyes, France, Martineau aims to incorporate local produce and seafood in inventive French- and Asian-inspired cuisine. Think year-round dishes like braised beef cheeks in red wine; slow-roasted daikon radish and parsley sweet garlic sauce; seaweed custard with poached quail eggs; and caramelized Santa Barbara uni and yuzu.
