Social Tap American Eatery has opened in Ventura's Pierpont Beach community. Offering locally oriented food and 24 craft beers on tap, the restaurant brings new life to a long vacant space, the former home of Thai Star restaurant, which was shuttered more than six years ago. Paul Martin's American Grill has opened a new location in the Promenade at Westlake. Specializing in handcrafted farm-to-table cuisine, the eatery is open daily for lunch and dinner. Expanding on a local trend, Ca'Dario has opened a pizzeria in a compact space adjacent to the main restaurant. Serving dinner nightly from 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m., the new establishment offers a slightly more affordable alternative to the first-rate pies sold a block away at competitor Olio e Limone's pizzeria adjunct. The Shop Café has replaced one of Milpas Street's myriad taquerias. The new eatery, which bills itself humbly as a coffee shop and diner, offers a high-quality take on straight-ahead American fare. With dishes like steel-cut oatmeal whipped with marscapone and topped with fresh citrus fruit, it's a little more than an ordinary diner. The Shop CafĂ©, 730 N. Chef Jason Tuley has opened an ambitious new eatery called Anchor Woodfire Kitchen. Located in Santa Barbara's Hotel Indigo Santa Barbara at the State House, the restaurant turns out more than wood-fired pizzas; you'll also find oak-grilled fish and lobster from local waters, as well as dry-aged steaks, pasta dishes and uncommon appetizers including rabbit sausage and a salad of pickled vegetables. Scarlett Begonia Starts Dinner Service
Under the guidance of its new chef, Joel Huff, Scarlett Begonia has begun serving dinner Thursday through Saturday. Chef Joel Huff has taken the top spot at Scarlett Begonia, returning to his hometown of Santa Barbara to help an old friend, proprietress Krista Fooks.
