Ventura chef Tim Kilcoyne of The SideCar Restaurant is known as a proponent of the Slow Food movement. Now he's expanded on the theme, opening a new eatery that will celebrate local produce. Located in Midtown Ventura, The Local Café will offer a casual dining experience highlighted by wood-fired pizzas (cooked over local citrus and avocado wood). The Local CafĂ© , 1751 E. Fresco Valley Cafe, the sister restaurant of popular Fresco Cafe in Santa Barbara and Goleta, has opened in Solvang. The eatery at 448 Atterdag Ave. serves similar California cuisine with an emphasis on natural, organic ingredients, and features a charming brick patio with fountains and a nice fireplace. Wine Flows Freely at Restaurant Brooks
Wine is flowing like never before at Brooks. Stop into one of Ventura's best New American restaurants for a glass straight out of the cask---rather than a bottle. New "free flow" technology has myriad advantages, from avoiding waste to preserving quality. Go Local at Rodney's Steakhouse
Chef Kirk DeLong keeps things local at Rodney's Steakhouse during the month of October, offering a special Santa Barbara locavore menu. Chef DeLong utilizes locally grown herbs and vegetables, along with seafood harvested from the Channel Islands, which on a clear day are visible from the oceanfront property. Autumn at Opal
Throughout October, Opal Restaurant & Bar is offering an autumn-themed, three-course dinner menu. Dishes include gourmet greens, grilled Kurobuta pork loin on butternut squash risotto, and pumpkin cheesecake. Each course may be paired with wine for an additional cost. A Taste of the Harbor
The Harbor Restaurant on Stearns Wharf now offers a three-course tasting menu, available at dinner Sunday through Thursday. Chef David Cecchini changes his offerings weekly, and the cost is just $20 for dishes such as lobster ravioli with sage butter, sultanas and goat cheese; beef Milanese with saffron potato risotto and sautéed spinach; and pan-roasted duck breast with stir-fried ginger rice and baby bok choy.
