Sarsaparilla Club, Miami Beach, FL

Sarsaparilla Club Restaurant Review

: You may know Jeff McInnis from Gigi and Yardbird, both of which he opened. It was at the latter that he met fellow “Top Chef” alum Janine Booth and decided to leave the Magic City for the Big Apple to launch Root & Bone. The power couple returned to the beach for this American dim sum concept. Dim sum carts wheel around items such as carrot and beet tartare, drunken deviled eggs, and heirloom tomatoes with homemade ricotta and tomato sorbet. The menu beckons with dishes you'll want to snag, most especially vegetables. Try spice honey carrots and farro salad with labne, baby kale and Marcona almonds, or zesty hand-cut fresh sweet corn "grits" with scallions and arugula mascarpone. Even overdone charred bok choy with pickled chilies, ginger miso broth and garlic chips is worth ordering. So is shrimp and bacon stuffed chicken wings slathered in chili lime hot sauce and buttermilk ranch. The real star of the show: Sarsaparilla's fried chicken. It’s seasoned with green curry, makrut lime powder, coriander and toasted coconut. Still hungry? Consider the rock shrimp laksa in a pool of coconut turmeric broth with egg noodles. If that doesn't work, dim sum dessert carts stacking toffee ice cream floats topped with "filthy" cherries and strawberry thyme buttermilk panna cotta surely will.
